Harry's Movie Review

Jungle Cruise is a 127-minute adventure romp down the Amazon with Dwayne Johnson as a wisecracking boat skipper and Emily Blunt as a determined researcher hunting for a mythical healing tree. It's a nice comedy that does exactly what it sets out to do. There's no hidden depth here, and that's fine. The film knows its lane and stays in it.

Johnson and Blunt work well together because they don't oversell the dynamic. There's a real ease between them, especially in the smaller moments where they're just riffing on each other's lines rather than delivering exposition. Blunt in particular grounds the film by playing her character straight, which makes the absurdity around her land better. The supporting cast members slot in competently without demanding more screen time than they deserve.

Director Jaume Collet-Serra keeps things moving at a steady clip, and the pacing never drags despite the two-hour runtime. The film does veer into some predictable territory in its final act, leaning on plot mechanics you've seen before. But it doesn't linger on them or try to make them feel weightier than they are.

What stayed with me was how unpretentious the whole thing felt. It's a summer adventure that doesn't mistake itself for something more important. You watch it, you get some laughs and spectacle, and you move on. There's something honest about that.
